Black and White Silhouette Tree Card with Layered Frame

Create a striking black and white card featuring a dramatic silhouette tree scene with a sunset sky. The design showcases a tree and sailboat in silhouette against warm orange and coral tones, all mounted on a black frame. This project uses die-cutting and layering techniques to create depth and visual impact.

Step by step

1. Cut the tree die from black cardstock using the Set the Scene die set. ▶ watch 22:15
2. 

   Carefully pop out all the tree pieces from the black die-cut frame, ensuring the outer frame border remains intact. Keep the intricate tree silhouette pieces separate from the frame.

3. 

   Run the Moonlit Skies frame die through your die-cutting machine with black cardstock to create the decorative border frame.

4. 

   Select a patterned paper from the We Can Dream pad that complements your tree silhouette. Position it behind the layered frame to check the effect.

5. 

   Adhere the patterned paper to a white card blank using double-sided tape or adhesive.

6. 

   Layer the decorative black frame on top of the sunset scene panel, positioning it to create a window effect around the tree and sailboat silhouette.

7. 

   Cut a second tree from black cardstock using the tree die. This will create a 3D layered element for your card.

8. 

   Attach foam pads to the back of the second tree die-cut in the thicker areas to add dimension.

   Position the 3D tree element slightly offset on top of the framed sunset panel to create a layered, dimensional effect.

10. 

    Add a sentiment stamp from the To the Moon and Back set using black ink to complete your card.

Tips from the show

• You can swap the background cardstock colour to create two different looks from one die-cut set.
• Cut the tree twice in different colours and offset them to create multiple trees with added depth.
• Use white gel pens or sparkle pens to add highlights and definition to the black silhouettes.
