Songbird Metallic Watercolour Card with Embossed Sentiment

A striking card featuring the Songbird stamp coloured with metallic watercolours on a black card base. The design includes a layered background with silver and white metallic washes, an embossed sentiment, and the bird positioned with dimensional wings using vellum and foam pads for depth.

Step by step

  1. Stamp the songbird onto white card using black ink, ensuring a crisp impression. ▶ watch 21:45
  2. Prepare a black card base and apply metallic watercolour in silver using a flat brush, dragging it down to create a corner zone for your focal point. ▶ watch 22:30
  3. Layer grey metallic watercolour over the silver, then add white metallic watercolour in a circular motion to create depth and interest. ▶ watch 23:15
  4. Use a fan brush to flick metallic watercolour across the top of the background to add texture and a point of interest. ▶ watch 23:45
  5. Colour the stamped bird using watercolour and alcohol markers, blending darker tones to define features like the eye and wing details. ▶ watch 24:15
  6. Use a white gel pen to follow the existing lines of the bird artwork, mirroring the design without adding new details. ▶ watch 24:45
  7. Stamp a sentiment from the set (such as 'friendship') onto the card base and emboss it with silver embossing powder. ▶ watch 25:45
  8. Heat set the embossed sentiment to bring it to full colour. ▶ watch 26:30
  9. Cut out the coloured bird and gently sculpt the wings upwards for dimension. ▶ watch 27:00
  10. Adhere vellum behind the bird to create a subtle layered effect, then attach the bird to the card using foam pads. ▶ watch 27:30
