Lover Girl Patchwork Card with Stencilled Background

A vibrant, multi-layered card featuring the Lover girl stamp (Daisy) coloured with alcohol markers and positioned on a patchwork of decorative papers. The background is built using stencils and distress inks in pink, yellow and teal, with black ink used to frame and blend the design.

Step by step

  1. Stamp the Lover girl (Daisy) onto white card using black ink. ▶ watch 35:45
  2. Outline the girl's features lightly with a darker alcohol marker, focusing on areas like the cheeks, lips, and nose to define shadows. ▶ watch 36:30
  3. Apply a peachy alcohol marker under the cheekbones, then layer your skin tone over the top using the other end of the marker. ▶ watch 37:00
  4. Enhance the face with additional colour work, using darker markers to accentuate key points and bring dimension to the features. ▶ watch 37:45
  5. Use a white gel pen and black pen to define the eyes and add highlights, creating more texture and realism. ▶ watch 38:15
  6. Colour the girl's clothing and accessories with alcohol markers to complete the character. ▶ watch 39:15
  7. Stamp the girl onto decorative paper that coordinates with your background, then colour around the edges with matching markers to create a seamless pattern when fussy cut. ▶ watch 39:45
  8. Prepare a large card base and begin building the background by layering decorative paper panels at angles. ▶ watch 40:30
  9. Use a stencil and distress ink in salvage patina to add colour to the background, working around the edges of your panels. ▶ watch 41:00
  10. Layer additional stencilled colour using pink distress ink, slightly overlapping the previous colour to build depth. ▶ watch 41:30
  11. Add teal distress ink using the same stencil, continuing to build a multi-coloured, textured background. ▶ watch 42:00
  12. Frame the entire background with black distress ink applied lightly around the edges to pull the design together. ▶ watch 42:30
  13. Mat the coloured girl image onto black card to make it pop against the background. ▶ watch 43:30
  14. Adhere the matted girl image to the layered background using foam pads for dimension. ▶ watch 44:00
  15. Add a sentiment (such as 'Hello beautiful') to the card, framing it lightly with black ink to tie the design together. ▶ watch 44:45
