Shaped Card with Stencilled Background and Character Topper

Design a shaped card using the new waste-free dies with a stencilled background. The stencil creates a decorative border around the edge of the card, and you can add gnome characters and sentiment plaques to complete the festive design.

Step by step

1. Take a card blank with a score line and position a shaped die over the top edge. ▶ watch 1:18:00
2. Overhang the die slightly over the hinge of the card and die cut to create the shaped edge. ▶ watch 1:18:30
3. Position the 7 by 7 stencil around the edges of the card. ▶ watch 1:19:00
4. Apply ink or sparkly paste through the stencil to create a decorative border. ▶ watch 1:19:30
5. Use a smaller nesting die to cut shapes from patterned paper. ▶ watch 1:20:00
6. Mount the paper shapes onto the card to add colour and pattern. ▶ watch 1:20:30
7. Stamp and colour gnome characters from the collection. ▶ watch 1:21:00
8. Die cut the gnome characters using the coordinating dies. ▶ watch 1:21:30
9. Position the gnome characters on the card as desired. ▶ watch 1:22:00
10. Add a sentiment plaque to the bottom corner of the card. ▶ watch 1:22:30

Tips from the show

• When overhanging the die over the card hinge, you can create a shaped card without needing an extra panel on the front.
• You can use sparkly pastes in golds and transparent colours to enhance the stencilled background.
