Create an elegant greeting card featuring a beautifully embossed floral background enhanced with delicate inking and white highlights. The design is finished with a decorative painted mount layered on top, giving your card a sophisticated, gallery-style presentation. This project combines HD 3D embossing techniques with artistic colouring to produce a stunning dimensional effect.

Step by step

1. 

   Select an HD 3D embossing folder featuring a floral or woodland design from the range displayed.

2. 

   Ink both sides of the HD 3D embossing folder lightly with black ink using a brush, ensuring the raised floral design is covered.

3. 

   Run a piece of white or cream cardstock through your die-cutting machine with the inked embossing folder to create the embossed floral background.

4. 

   Inspect both the front and back of the embossed card to see the raised and recessed patterns. Choose which side you prefer to use for your project - the front shows raised embossing whilst the back shows recessed detail.

5. 

   Lightly brush white ink over the embossed design using a soft brush or sponge to highlight the raised details and bring the image forward.

6. Spray the embossed card lightly with water to intensify the black ink and create depth in the floral design. ▶ watch 50:00

   Position your chosen painted floral mount on top of the embossed background card. Secure it in place using glue or foam pads for added dimension.

8. Add a die-cut sentiment or word in a contrasting colour to complete your card. Position it centrally on the front panel to finish the design. ▶ watch 52:00

Tips from the show

• Always ink both sides of the embossing folder so you have options – one side may look better than the other.
• Don't over-work the card – know when to stop adding details to avoid ruining the design.
• The white ink highlighting technique brings the embossed details to life and creates a painted effect.
