Mixed Media Embossed Tree with Glossy Accents

Create a layered card combining embossed tree detail with brown ink highlighting and clear glossy accents for a frosty, dimensional finish. This demonstrates how to build up effects and correct them as you go.

Step by step

1. Emboss the tree design using the 3D embossing folder on card stock as described in the previous tree project. ▶ watch 49:45
2. Highlight the embossed areas with white ink pad by tapping and rubbing across the raised surface. ▶ watch 50:00
3. Once dry, apply brown ink over the white highlight to add warmth and depth to the design. ▶ watch 50:15
4. If you're unhappy with the brown, apply white ink again to lighten and push back the colour. ▶ watch 50:30
5. Apply clear embossing powder over the finished ink work. ▶ watch 50:45
6. Heat set the clear powder with a heat gun to create a shiny, glossy finish. ▶ watch 51:00
7. Mount the finished embossed panel onto a card blank. ▶ watch 51:15

Tips from the show

• There are no rules in crafting; you can layer and adjust colours as you work.
• Clear embossing powder over ink creates a beautiful glossy, frosty effect.
• Don't be afraid to go back over areas you're unhappy with; you can always adjust.
