Inky Abbey on Painted Mount Card

Create a dramatic framed card featuring an ornate abbey design embossed and inked in black oxide, mounted on a kraft card frame. The technique creates a striking architectural centrepiece with subtle pink highlights, perfect for special occasions. This project combines embossing, inking and mounting techniques to achieve a sophisticated, gallery-style finish.

Step by step

1. 

   Ink up the Abbey embossing folder with black Distress Oxide ink, tapping it across both the front and back of the folder to create an even coverage.

2. 

   Spray the inked embossing folder lightly with water on both sides. Use a fine mist spray to dampen the folder evenly.

3. 

   Place the pre-printed painted mount with the floral design into the embossing folder. Position it carefully to ensure it sits properly within the folder before embossing.

4. 

   Place the inked embossing folder over the painted mount and run through a die-cutting machine to transfer the design onto the mount.

5. Mount the embossed abbey piece onto black card stock to create a border and make the design stand out. ▶ watch 13:30
6. Add a sentiment to complete the card. Position and adhere your chosen sentiment to the front of the pink card base. ▶ watch 13:45

Tips from the show

• Trust the process when you see the ink transfer—it will look like a hot mess initially but creates a beautiful effect.
• The embossing folders clean beautifully under a tap and are indestructible, so don't worry about putting ink on them.
