A subtle, elegant card created by stencilling a soft gray halo onto patterned paper from the collection. The layered paper design means you achieve dimension and texture without extensive blending, making it ideal for those with hand strain.

Step by step

1. Select a patterned paper from the collection featuring lace, flowers and script details. ▶ watch 51:45
2. Place the floral stencil onto the patterned paper. ▶ watch 52:00
3. Apply gray ink lightly through the stencil using a brush, creating a soft halo effect around the centre. ▶ watch 52:15
4. Lift away the stencil to reveal the layered design. ▶ watch 53:00
5. Mount the stencilled paper onto a card base. ▶ watch 53:30
6. Add a sentiment to the side of the card to complete the design. ▶ watch 54:00

Tips from the show

• Stencilling onto patterned paper gives you layers and texture without the strain of blending.
• Be light-handed with these highly pigmented inks to avoid over-saturation.
• Patterned papers work beautifully with stencils and do not require a plain background.
