Layered Hydrangea Stencil Card with Sentiment

Create a beautiful multi-layered hydrangea card using five numbered stencils and coordinating dies. This project builds dimension through layering different ink colours, resulting in a professional-looking floral design with sentiment words.

Step by step

1. Line up stencil number one with the edge of your card using the heart registration marks in the corner as a guide. ▶ watch 13:30
2. Tap off excess ink from your pad and blend yellow ink through the first stencil using a sponge or brush. ▶ watch 14:00
3. Remove the stencil and line up stencil number two, then apply orange ink to the centre area, pressing lightly for detail. ▶ watch 14:45
4. Apply stencil number three and blend in a new colour to add more dimension to the emerging flower shape. ▶ watch 15:30
5. Use stencil number four with green ink to create leaf details, adding darker tones at the edges for depth. ▶ watch 16:00
6. Apply the coordinating hydrangea die to cut out the detailed flower shape, which includes cut lines on the back to raise petals for dimension. ▶ watch 18:30
7. Raise the small petal sections on the back of the die-cut piece to create a fuller, three-dimensional hydrangea head. ▶ watch 19:00
8. Cut out the sentiment words (thanks, happy days, or gorgeous) using the coordinating word dies. ▶ watch 20:00
9. Layer the hydrangea, sentiment words, and background lattice die onto your card base using foam pads for dimension. ▶ watch 21:00

Tips from the show

• If you're new to crafting, just get some colour down on your first attempt—don't worry about perfection.
• Make three cards at once using the same stencils without cleaning between them to save time.
• Start with light ink application and add more if needed; you cannot easily remove ink once applied.
