Aurora Borealis Bear with Watercolour Fill and Stamp Detail

Use a stencil to create a bear outline, then fill it with watercolour in multiple colours to mimic an Aurora Borealis effect. Once dry, stamp woodland details inside to create a magical night-sky scene.

Step by step

1. Place the bear stencil from the Woodland Wildlife set onto your watercolour card. ▶ watch 29:30
2. Use a pencil to trace around the inside of the stencil to create a bear outline. ▶ watch 30:00
3. Paint water inside the bear outline using a brush, keeping it within the pencil lines. ▶ watch 30:15
4. Drop teal ink into the wet area and allow it to spread naturally within the water. ▶ watch 31:00
5. Add pink and purple inks to different areas of the wet bear, allowing colours to blend organically. ▶ watch 31:30
6. Use a dry brush to lift excess water and puddles by dabbing with tissue-dried brush bristles. ▶ watch 32:30
7. Add darker blue ink to the feet and edges to intensify the Aurora effect. ▶ watch 33:00
8. Set the bear aside to dry completely. ▶ watch 34:45
9. Once dry, stamp woodland trees inside the bear's legs using the Woodland Wildlife stamps. ▶ watch 1:02:00

Tips from the show

• Keep the water wet longer by working quickly and adding more water if needed.
• Do not try to blend watercolour completely; let the colours merge naturally.
• Use a smaller brush for detailed areas like the bear's legs and face.
