Make a Splash Whale Lamination Card with White Base Layer

Create a striking whale and wave design using the Make a Splash lamination stamp set on coloured card stock. By stamping the solid portion in white first, you create a vibrant base layer that makes the subsequent coloured inks pop dramatically off the darker card.

Step by step

  1. Take the solid portion of the whale stamp and ink it with white ink pad. ▶ watch 56:45
  2. Stamp the white whale onto craft-coloured card stock to create a base layer. ▶ watch 57:30
  3. Clean the stamp thoroughly with tissue to remove the white pigment ink. ▶ watch 58:00
  4. Ink the same solid stamp with teal or blue ink, spraying lightly with water to blend. ▶ watch 58:15
  5. Stamp the blue whale directly over the white base layer, allowing the white underneath to create depth and vibrancy. ▶ watch 59:00
  6. Dry the card with a heat gun. ▶ watch 59:30
  7. Ink the solid wave stamp with white ink and stamp it onto the card to create foam details. ▶ watch 1:02:00
  8. Clean the stamp and ink the wave stamp again with a different blue shade, spraying with water. ▶ watch 1:03:00
  9. Stamp the blue wave over the white wave base, positioning it to create layered wave effects. ▶ watch 1:04:00
  10. Ink the detail portion of the whale stamp with black ink and stamp it over the coloured whale base. ▶ watch 1:09:00
  11. Ink and stamp the wave detail portion in black over the coloured waves. ▶ watch 1:10:00
  12. Use white paint or white ink on a brush to add highlights to the wave heads and whale details, blending as needed. ▶ watch 1:15:00
  13. Swipe a black ink pad down the side edge of the card to create a defined border and make the design pop. ▶ watch 1:18:00
