Step by step

  1. Fold a blank card in half to create a deep crease, then position the monster die so it overhangs slightly on one side to create the opening edge. ▶ watch 36:00
  2. Run the card through the die-cutting machine to cut the first monster outline. ▶ watch 36:30
  3. Cut a second monster shape from black card to create the complete base layer for the character. ▶ watch 37:15
  4. Glue the two black card pieces together along the edges to form the full monster body shape. ▶ watch 37:45
  5. Die cut the monster body from patterned paper using the splodgy design paper, then glue it onto the black base. ▶ watch 38:15
  6. Die cut the teeth pieces from white card, then selectively remove some teeth from the strips and position them under the mouth opening, gluing them at angles for a playful look. ▶ watch 40:00
  7. Die cut a black circle from black card to place in the centre of the face, which will make the eyes pop with colour. ▶ watch 41:30
  8. Position and glue the horn pieces at the top of the monster head. ▶ watch 43:00
  9. Glue the eye pieces onto the black circle, positioning them at different heights and angles to create a wonky, expressive face. ▶ watch 43:30
  10. Stamp a sentiment such as 'Surprise' onto white card using black ink. ▶ watch 44:30
  11. Trim the sentiment piece with an abstract edge, then glue it to a black card scrap and trim again to create a framed effect. ▶ watch 45:15
  12. Attach the sentiment piece to the monster using a foam pad to raise it up, positioning it under the monster's arm as if it is holding it. ▶ watch 46:15
