Step by step

  1. Cut watercolour cardstock to size, trimming down as needed for your card base. ▶ watch 12:15
  2. Place your watercolour cardstock into the embossing folder, positioning it further down the plate to allow the machine to grip properly. ▶ watch 13:30
  3. Run the cardstock through your embossing machine with the white plate, embossing folder, and B plate to create the raised poppy design. ▶ watch 15:00
  4. Wet your brush with clean water and apply it to the first petal of the embossed design. ▶ watch 16:45
  5. Pick up colour from an ink pad or watercolour pen and spot it into the wet petal area. ▶ watch 17:00
  6. Pounce the side of your brush gently over the wet petal to distribute the colour evenly across the embossed lines. ▶ watch 17:30
  7. Move to a non-adjacent petal and repeat the water, colour, and pouncing process to avoid colours bleeding together. ▶ watch 18:30
  8. Layer a second colour into the same petal whilst the water is still wet, pouncing gently to blend. ▶ watch 22:00
  9. Once the card is dry, enhance the design by swiping a white ink pad over the embossed lines to bring back detail and dimension. ▶ watch 30:00
  10. For added luxury, apply gilding wax over the dried watercoloured design by tapping and rubbing gently with your finger to create a metallic finish. ▶ watch 37:15
