Winter Cabin Scene 8x8 Card with Stag Silhouettes

A project from our live show Stamps By Me - Celebration Box - Cotton Pines Class 2 · 09/30/2023 · watch it from 0:30

Create an 8x8 card featuring a cosy cabin viewed through a framed window effect, with silhouetted stags peering in from the foreground. The layered composition uses stencils, patterned papers and stamped florals to build depth and tell a winter story.

Step by step

  1. Select an 8x8 green sparkle card base and gather the patterned papers and stencils from your kit. ▶ watch 0:30
  2. Cut out the cabin element from one patterned paper, leaving the tree attached to create your background scene. ▶ watch 1:15
  3. Use a stencil brush with black ink to stamp a stag silhouette onto a paned paper, creating a misty morning effect with varying ink density. ▶ watch 2:15
  4. Clean the stencil thoroughly to avoid ink transfer, then flip it over and stamp additional stag silhouettes at different positions to create a family of stags surrounding the cabin. ▶ watch 3:30
  5. Disconnect the cotton flower stamp from its backing and use it with black ink to frame the entire composition around the edges, creating a tunnel effect that draws focus to the cabin. ▶ watch 5:00
  6. Stamp the cotton flower border over parts of the stag silhouettes to push them into the background and add layering depth. ▶ watch 6:00
  7. Trim the patterned paper with scissors to create a vintage-style edge, then apply distress ink around the perimeter to tie the design together. ▶ watch 7:45
  8. Adhere the framed scene to your card base, positioning it slightly off-centre for visual interest and dimension. ▶ watch 9:30
  9. Add the cut-out cabin piece on top with foam tape, positioning it in the corner and distressing its edges to match the overall aesthetic. ▶ watch 10:30
  10. Stamp a sentiment message onto the design using the cotton flower stamp as a base, positioning it to fill any open spaces and complete the composition. ▶ watch 11:45
  11. Optional: enhance the snow effect by adding glitter glue or sparkle pens around the cabin roof and throughout the design to create a festive winter finish. ▶ watch 13:00
