Moody Halloween Reflection Scene with Gel Pen Highlights

Build a spooky scene using the reflection stamp collection with a moody watercolour background. Add a witch silhouette and use white gel pen to create atmospheric highlights and water ripples.

Step by step

1. Prepare your moody background card (the one with purple, pink and blue spatter from earlier). ▶ watch 58:15
2. Edge the background with a blending brush and dark purple or blue ink to enhance the moody atmosphere. ▶ watch 58:30
3. Stamp the reflection collection stamp in black ink onto the background, positioning it in the lower half of the card. ▶ watch 59:00
4. Allow the ink to dry completely. ▶ watch 1:00:00
5. Take a white gel pen and add highlight lines down the left side of the building windows to suggest light. ▶ watch 1:00:30
6. Add white gel pen highlights to the arch and tower details. ▶ watch 1:01:00
7. Stamp the witch on a broom silhouette in black ink, positioning it flying through the sky above the building. ▶ watch 1:01:30
8. Add white gel pen highlights down the side of the witch to make her appear to come off the page. ▶ watch 1:02:00
9. Optionally, use a brush and water to blur the base of the building slightly, suggesting a water reflection. ▶ watch 1:02:30
10. Once dry, add white gel pen ripple lines at the base to enhance the water reflection effect. ▶ watch 1:03:00
11. Stamp the 'Creep It Real' sentiment in black ink at the base of the card. ▶ watch 1:03:30
12. Mount the finished piece onto your white card blank. ▶ watch 1:04:00

Tips from the show

• White gel pen will dry two shades lighter than it appears when wet, so don't be afraid to apply it generously.
• Add white gel pen highlights to one side of the silhouette to create a consistent light source.
• You can add optional sparkle or white details to enhance the atmospheric effect.
