Multicoloured Birds with Gold Embossing Card

Create a striking card featuring multiple birds in cascading watercolour effect, finished with gold heat-embossed details. This design combines the lamination stamp technique with embossing powder for a luxurious, gallery-quality finish.

Step by step

1. Start with a black cardstock square as your base for high contrast. ▶ watch 39:15
2. Ink up the coloured base layer of the bird stamp with orange and pink ink pads. ▶ watch 39:30
3. Spritz the stamp with water and press it onto the card to create the first bird. ▶ watch 40:00
4. Re-ink the stamp with fresh orange and pink, spray with water, and stamp a second bird overlapping the first to create a cascading effect. ▶ watch 40:30
5. Ink the stamp with orange and yellow, spray with water, and stamp a third bird lower on the card. ▶ watch 41:00
6. Dry the card completely with a heat gun. ▶ watch 41:30
7. Use an antistatic bag to remove excess moisture from the card surface. ▶ watch 42:30
8. Ink up the black detail layer with a sticky embossing ink pad. ▶ watch 43:00
9. Stamp the detail layer over each bird twice, pressing firmly to capture all the fine details. ▶ watch 43:30
10. Dust the wet embossing ink with gold embossing powder, covering all the stamped areas. ▶ watch 44:15
11. Tap off excess powder and heat set with a heat gun until the gold powder melts and becomes shiny. ▶ watch 44:45
12. Ink up a sentiment stamp such as 'Think Different' with sticky embossing ink. ▶ watch 48:00
13. Stamp the sentiment in the centre of the card, pressing twice for clarity. ▶ watch 48:30
14. Apply gold embossing powder to the sentiment and heat set until shiny. ▶ watch 49:00
15. Mount the finished card onto a card blank and optionally add sequins around the design for extra sparkle. ▶ watch 52:00

Tips from the show

• Use an antistatic bag before embossing to remove fingerprints and excess moisture.
• Stamp the detail layer twice to ensure you capture all the fine line work of the bird design.
• Gold embossing powder transforms the look and makes the card feel luxurious and gallery-quality.
