Watercolour Paper Floral Card with Embossed Detail

A layered card combining fussy-cut watercolour florals with embossed texture and patterned paper panels. The design features soft painted flowers as the focal point, with white breaker panels to balance busy pattern work and create visual interest.

Step by step

1. Cut a piece of watercolour paper to size using scissors. ▶ watch 16:00
2. Ink a pink ink pad and swathe it across the embossing folder in several directions to catch all the raised and recessed areas. ▶ watch 18:00
3. Fussy cut around the watercolour floral design, carefully trimming away the background. ▶ watch 19:00
4. Select a complementary patterned paper from your pad and trim it to a suitable size for layering. ▶ watch 20:15
5. Run white cardstock through the embossing folder to create a textured white panel. ▶ watch 22:00
6. Cut a thin white cardstock panel to act as a breaker strip, approximately 1 inch wide. ▶ watch 26:00
7. Stack three pieces of scrap cardstock together and glue them to create a raised mount pad. ▶ watch 27:30
8. Adhere the fussy-cut flower to the raised mount pad using tape. ▶ watch 29:30
9. Glue the patterned paper to the card base, positioning it at the top and side. ▶ watch 40:30
10. Attach the white embossed panel to the card front. ▶ watch 42:15
11. Create a bow from decorative wrap or ribbon and attach it to the side of the card near the flower. ▶ watch 43:00
12. Add a sentiment using washi tape, tucking it near the bow for a finished look. ▶ watch 44:45

Tips from the show

• When using pattern paper, add a white breaker panel to prevent the design from becoming visually overwhelming.
• Stack scrap cardstock pieces together to create raised mounts that add dimension without requiring foam pads.
• Play around with the positioning of elements on your card before gluing to find the arrangement you prefer.
