Watercoloured Birthday Card with Scored Detail and Layered Banners

A project from our live show CHRISTMAS ADVENT CALENDAR - Inspiration show 2 - Broadcast 13th Jan 2024 · 01/13/2024 · watch it from 1:15

A beautiful layered card featuring watercoloured paper in teals, pinks and corals with scored detail lines at the top. The design uses die-cut banner strips in varying sizes, a pre-painted corner wreath mount, and decorative arrows with a sentiment topper to create an elegant, non-Christmas greeting card.

Step by step

  1. Select your papers from the Radiant Rose pad, choosing pieces with teals, pinks, corals and greens, plus a script-patterned piece and a striped piece. ▶ watch 3:15
  2. Cut your selected papers down to size before running them through your A5 die-cutting machine to create banner strips in graduated sizes. ▶ watch 4:00
  3. Run the largest teal paper through the die-cutter first, followed by the script paper for the next size down, then the striped paper for the smallest banner. ▶ watch 4:30
  4. Take your coloured card base and the white card layer, then score lines horizontally across the top of the white piece using a score tool, spacing them about 1 cm apart for approximately a quarter of the card's height. ▶ watch 6:30
  5. Glue the white scored card onto the coloured card base, ensuring the scored detail is visible on the front. ▶ watch 8:30
  6. Position and glue the pre-painted corner wreath mount onto the card, placing it to frame the design. ▶ watch 10:15
  7. Arrange your decorative arrows on the card, using them to add visual interest and guide the eye across the design. ▶ watch 11:00
  8. Glue one sentiment topper flat at the top of the white scored line, then add a second sentiment topper with a foam pad behind it to raise it up for dimension. ▶ watch 11:45
  9. Create a small mat from your paper offcuts and glue it behind the raised sentiment to hide any gaps or joins. ▶ watch 12:15
  10. Add sparkle to the flowers using a glitter pen or similar embellishment, applying it lightly to avoid flooding the design. ▶ watch 13:00
