Simple Mini Album with Fold-Out Pages

Create a beautiful keepsake mini album with fold-out accordion pages and side pockets. This simple construction uses scored card to create a structured album that holds photos and memories, with decorative paper panels and a ribbon closure.

Step by step

1. Gather four pieces of A4 card in your chosen colour from the paper pack. ▶ watch 1:45
2. Cut the first piece of A4 card at 7.5 inches on the short side using a cutter or guillotine. ▶ watch 2:45
3. Turn the card to landscape orientation and score lines at 2.5 inches, 2.75 inches, 7.75 inches and 8 inches using a score tool. ▶ watch 3:15
4. Fold the card along all the score lines to create a structure with gussets that can hold bulk inside. ▶ watch 4:15
5. Cut two pieces of white card stock at 7 by 9.5 inches for the accordion fold-out pages. ▶ watch 6:00
6. Score both accordion pieces at 4.5 inches and 9 inches along the long side. ▶ watch 7:45
7. Connect the two accordion pieces together using double-sided tape or adhesive on the hinge created by the score lines. ▶ watch 9:00
8. Measure and cut a piece of patterned paper to fit the front cover panel of your album. ▶ watch 12:00
9. Cut a length of ribbon long enough to wrap around the album and tie a bow, leaving extra length for the bow tails. ▶ watch 13:30
10. Secure the ribbon to the inside front cover using tape, positioning it so it will be hidden by the front panel. ▶ watch 15:00
11. Glue the patterned paper panel to the front cover, covering the ribbon attachment points. ▶ watch 15:30
12. Decorate the inside back panel with patterned paper before attaching the accordion pages to hide the hinge. ▶ watch 16:00
13. Glue the accordion pages into the centre of the album using strong adhesive on the hinge. ▶ watch 17:45
14. Add a decorative panel over the hinge to hide the attachment and create a neat finish. ▶ watch 18:30
15. Create a side pocket by cutting a piece of patterned paper and gluing it to the side panel, leaving the top and bottom open for tucking items inside. ▶ watch 20:30
16. Tie the ribbon into a bow around the album and trim the tails to your preferred length. ▶ watch 22:15

Tips from the show

• Make your score lines as perfect as possible for clean folds.
• Decorate the back panels and hide hinges with decorative paper before attaching accordion pages to avoid difficult assembly later.
• Use offcuts from your card cuts to create side panels and pockets, making smart use of your materials.
