Decorated Envelope with Rub-On Transfer

Elevate a coordinating envelope by applying a rub-on transfer to create a printed appearance. This technique adds a professional, polished finish to your card set without any shine or exterior outline.

Step by step

1. Cut away your chosen rub-on design from the sheet using scissors. ▶ watch 1:02:30
2. Peel away the transparent carrier sheet to reveal the image. ▶ watch 1:02:45
3. Position the rub-on in the corner of your envelope, image-side down. ▶ watch 1:03:00
4. Use your fingernail, a ruler edge, or a flat tool to burnish the design onto the envelope. ▶ watch 1:03:15
5. Rub firmly in a scratching motion to transfer the image completely. ▶ watch 1:03:30
6. Carefully peel back the carrier sheet to reveal the transferred design. ▶ watch 1:03:45
7. If any part hasn't transferred, replace the carrier sheet and rub again. ▶ watch 1:04:00

Tips from the show

• The rub-on has no shine or exterior outline, so it looks like the envelope has been professionally printed.
• The uncoated envelope allows you to stamp onto it if desired.
• Use a flat-edged tool rather than a pointed one for best results.
