Embossed Sunflower Card with Gilding Wax

Create a striking card using a large 5x7 embossing folder featuring wild sunflowers and funky leaves. Run coloured card through the folder, then highlight the embossed detail with multicoloured gilding wax for a dimensional, textured finish.

Step by step

1. Run black card stock through your die-cutting machine with the wild sunflower 5x7 embossing folder. ▶ watch 50:00
2. Examine the embossed detail on the card, noting the dimension created by the folder. ▶ watch 50:30
3. Select several colours of gilding wax to apply randomly across the embossed design. ▶ watch 51:00
4. Apply the first colour of gilding wax to the embossed petals, picking up the detail and dimension. ▶ watch 51:30
5. Apply additional colours of gilding wax to different petals and areas, creating a multicoloured effect. ▶ watch 52:00
6. Blend the wax colours together by rubbing gently across the embossed areas. ▶ watch 52:30
7. Cut around the embossed flower petals with scissors to create a shaped element or side panel. ▶ watch 53:00
8. Adhere the cut flower panel to a card base or use as a 3D embellishment. ▶ watch 53:30
9. Add a simple sentiment from your stash to complete the card. ▶ watch 54:00

Tips from the show

• You can create a clean and simple white embossed card with no ink or wax if you prefer a minimal look.
• The elongated petals of this design allow you to cut around them easily to create shaped elements or 3D embellishments.
• Never throw away a card with messy fingerprints—cut around the mess and repurpose it as a panel or embellishment.
