Two-Piece Nested Box Set with No Glue

Create a matching lid and base box set from two 12x12 sheets of paper, where the base fits neatly inside the lid. Both boxes assemble without glue using scored and cut sections that lock together, perfect for gift presentation.

Step by step

1. Cut your first 12x12 sheet of paper - this will be your box lid. ▶ watch 52:30
2. Place the lid paper on the scoreboard and score at the marked lines, following the same process as the cube box. ▶ watch 53:00
3. Cut out two small squares from opposite sides of the paper as marked on the scoreboard instructions. ▶ watch 53:30
4. For the base box, take your second 12x12 sheet and trim 2.5mm off two adjacent sides using a guillotine or cutter. ▶ watch 54:00
5. Place the trimmed base paper on the scoreboard and score at the marked lines. ▶ watch 54:30
6. Cut out two small squares from the base paper in the same positions as the lid. ▶ watch 55:00
7. Score all the remaining score lines on both the lid and base papers using your scoring tool. ▶ watch 55:30
8. Cut into the marked squares on both pieces, being careful to cut only to the second line. ▶ watch 56:00
9. Fold the sides of the lid box inward and tuck the flaps under to create the lid shape. ▶ watch 56:30
10. Fold the sides of the base box inward and tuck the flaps under to create the base shape. ▶ watch 57:00
11. Test that the base box fits snugly inside the lid box for a perfect nested fit. ▶ watch 57:30

Tips from the show

• Mark your scoreboard with a pen at the score line positions if your eyesight is not perfect, to avoid confusion.
• Trim only 2.5mm off two sides of the base paper - not all four sides - so it fits inside the lid.
• A good burnish on the folds will help the boxes stay together without glue due to the heavy weight of the paper.
