Best Day Ever Easel Card with Animal Toppers

Create a freestanding 3D easel card using the Best Day Ever kit. The card stands proud on its own and features layered animal toppers with leaves and sparkle details, perfect for birthdays or special occasions.

Step by step

1. Take two plain card blanks of the same size. Score the top card blank down the middle, then fold it in half to create the easel base. ▶ watch 20:30
2. Cut the front off the second card blank using a guillotine, keeping the back panel intact. ▶ watch 21:00
3. Apply double-sided tape to the lower portion only of the cut front panel, then stick it to the front of your scored base card so it can stand up when opened. ▶ watch 21:15
4. Select a decorative card blank from the kit and trim it down slightly on the top and sides to create a white border mat layer. ▶ watch 22:00
5. Adhere the matted card blank to the base of your easel card using double-sided tape. ▶ watch 22:45
6. Cut a piece of decorative card in half lengthways to create two faux mat layers for the front panel. ▶ watch 24:30
7. Stick one piece to the top and one to the bottom of the front panel using double-sided tape. ▶ watch 25:00
8. Select a pre-printed sentiment from the kit and trim it with a white border using your guillotine. ▶ watch 25:30
9. Edge the sentiment with black ink pad around all edges to define it against the background. ▶ watch 26:00
10. Apply foam pads to the back of the sentiment and stick it to the front panel. ▶ watch 26:15
11. Cut out animal toppers from the kit, trimming away excess white card if desired. ▶ watch 39:00
12. Apply foam pads behind the animal toppers and position them on the card, layering them with leaf embellishments. ▶ watch 42:00
13. Cut out leaf toppers from the kit and trim them down to create a scattered leaf effect. ▶ watch 46:00
14. Edge the leaves with black ink pad to enhance definition, then apply foam pads and layer them on the card. ▶ watch 47:00
15. Apply glitter glue in green and gold to the trees and leaf areas to add sparkle and catch the light. ▶ watch 51:30
16. Manipulate and curl the animal and leaf toppers slightly to give them dimension and make them look alive rather than flat. ▶ watch 53:00

Tips from the show

• Only apply tape to the lower portion of the front panel so the card can stand up properly when opened.
• Make three easel cards at once to save time—do all the scoring, cutting and matting together rather than repeating the process.
• If your cuts aren't perfect, use an ink pad to edge around the cut pieces to hide any imperfections.
