Step by step

  1. Wet the top portion of your hot-foiled card above the house line using a flat brush and clean water, working on a slightly tilted surface. ▶ watch 34:15
  2. Paint around the house outlines with water only to protect them from the sky colour. ▶ watch 34:30
  3. Apply pink watercolour to the wet sky area by pouncing your brush, holding the card at an angle so the colour disperses downward. ▶ watch 36:45
  4. Add blue watercolour to the sky, pouncing it onto the foiled areas which will resist the colour, creating natural separation. ▶ watch 37:30
  5. Introduce purple watercolour to blend with the blue, continuing to pounce for an even distribution. ▶ watch 38:15
  6. Soften any harsh colour edges by adding water with your fingers or a spray bottle to reactivate and blend the wet paint. ▶ watch 40:00
  7. Paint all the house buildings with yellow watercolour, working from top to bottom without connecting to the blue sky. ▶ watch 46:00
  8. Add orange watercolour to half of each building to create a lit effect, then apply a darker orange line down the side for dimension. ▶ watch 46:30
  9. Dry the card completely using a heat gun or by leaving it to air dry. ▶ watch 50:15
  10. Add white paint flicks across the sky and buildings to create a snowflake effect, then add gold sparkle details with the end of your paintbrush. ▶ watch 51:00
  11. Mount the finished painted piece onto a card base or white/black card with a sentiment. ▶ watch 56:00
