Layered Hydrangea Stencil Card with Blended Inks

Create a stunning multi-layered hydrangea flower card using coordinating stencils and blended inks in various colours. The layering technique builds dimension and depth, resulting in an artistic, gallery-quality piece that looks like a piece of artwork.

Step by step

  1. Prepare your watercolour card stock and position stencil number one aligned with the top and sides of your card. ▶ watch 1:11:00
  2. Using a blending brush and pink ink, apply colour through the first stencil, building darker tones around the edges for dimension. ▶ watch 1:12:30
  3. Line up stencil number two and apply teal ink through the openings to add the next layer of the flower. ▶ watch 1:13:45
  4. Apply purple ink through stencil number two on different areas to create colour variation and depth. ▶ watch 1:14:15
  5. Position stencil number three and apply green ink for the leaf details, keeping the application lighter overall. ▶ watch 1:15:00
  6. Add darker green to the leaf tips and edges to create definition and make the leaves appear more realistic. ▶ watch 1:16:30
  7. Layer teal ink over some of the green areas to add additional colour interest and blend the tones together. ▶ watch 1:17:30
  8. Continue layering with remaining stencils, building up the flower petals and foliage with your chosen colour palette. ▶ watch 1:18:30
