A project from our live show CATCH UP on the Friday Launch COLOUR CRAZY 17th Sept 21 · 09/17/2021
A charming A5 card featuring a large stamped kitten image coloured with watercolour paints, set against a delicate stencilled web-like background in blue. The design showcases how watercolours can bring depth and dimension to detailed stamp work.
Ink the kitten stamp with waterproof black ink pad, positioning it off-centre on white cardstock to leave room for stencil detail.
Position the stencil over the stamped kitten and hold it in place securely.
Pick up a shade of blue alcohol marker or watercolour with your blending brush and apply it around the stencil, creating a coloured background effect.
Move the stencil down slightly and continue adding blue colour to build the background detail around the kitten.
Squeeze a small amount of chestnut brown watercolour paint onto your palette lid.
Squeeze a small amount of toffee brown watercolour paint onto your palette lid alongside the chestnut.
Add water to the brown colour and apply it to the kitten's face and head with a wet brush, covering the stamped image.
Continue painting the kitten's body with the brown watercolour, leaving a lighter halo down the centre to suggest light.
Add darker brown to the ears and shadow areas where the stamp lines indicate depth.
Paint the kitten's eyes with the ink pad or watercolour, then add white gel pen highlights to make the eyes pop.
