Girl Boss Watercolour Card with Stamped Legs

Create an empowering card featuring stamped legs in heels with a dramatic watercolour atmosphere effect. The design uses layered black washes to create depth and dimension, suggesting movement and energy around the figure.

Step by step

1. Prepare a card base with matted and layered cardstock. ▶ watch 16:45
2. Stamp the 'Girl Boss' sentiment onto your card using black ink. ▶ watch 16:50
3. Stamp the large size legs and heels design onto the card using black ink pad, pressing firmly for good colour transfer. ▶ watch 17:00
4. Mix black watercolour paint in your palette and apply a light wash around the legs to create a halo effect. ▶ watch 18:15
5. Add a second, darker layer of black watercolour around the legs, concentrating the colour closer to the figure. ▶ watch 19:00
6. Apply pure black watercolour with minimal water to the innermost area around the legs for maximum depth. ▶ watch 19:45
7. Mix blue watercolour with a touch of black to create a denim colour and paint the legs, leaving white spaces to suggest light catching the fabric. ▶ watch 23:45
8. Add a skin tone watercolour to the ankles and feet areas. ▶ watch 25:00
9. Mix brown with black watercolour and paint the shoe base, applying a second darker layer around the shoe edges for dimension. ▶ watch 25:30
10. Add splats and highlights using the mixed watercolours on the brush to create an artistic, energetic finish. ▶ watch 27:15
11. Optional: use a gel pen to add highlights around the legs, ankles and shoes to bring back detail and definition. ▶ watch 27:45

Tips from the show

• If you create a puddle of water on your card, use a tissue to absorb the excess water without removing all the colour.
• Leave white spaces on the card for light and shade – do not feel you need to colour everything in completely.
• You can create different effects by varying the amount of water in your brush – more water for lighter washes, less water for darker, more concentrated colour.
