Colourful Circle Mask Card with Elephant Stamped Details

Create a bright, dreamy card using hand-made circle masks and layered ink blending. Stamp elephant characters and coordinating images within each coloured circle to create a whimsical, dimensional design with a vellum sentiment panel.

Step by step

1. Start with a piece of textured stamping card as your base. ▶ watch 1:30
2. Create a stencil by cutting circles of various sizes from spare card using circle dies from your stash. ▶ watch 1:45
3. Select several coordinating ink pad colours (ocean, cassis, orange, emerald and others) and arrange them with lids as holders. ▶ watch 2:00
4. Begin with the largest circles, using circular motions from the edge towards the centre with your first colour to create dimension. ▶ watch 2:30
5. Leave the centre of each circle pale to enhance the dome effect, then blend in a second colour around the edges. ▶ watch 3:00
6. Work down to smaller circles, overlapping them and leaving some white gaps for visual interest. ▶ watch 4:00
7. Continue filling the card with circles in various sizes and colours, building up the composition. ▶ watch 5:15
8. Stamp elephant characters and coordinating images (birthday cakes, mice, parcels, ballerinas) within each circle using black ink. ▶ watch 7:00
9. Cut a piece of plain vellum and stamp a sentiment (such as 'Big Thanks') onto it using Stazon ink. ▶ watch 10:00
10. Tear the edges of the vellum by hand to create a quirky, jagged border. ▶ watch 11:15
11. Brush the torn edges with Stazon ink to add definition and depth to the vellum panel. ▶ watch 11:45
12. Colour the back of the vellum with coordinating ink colours (purple, blue, orange) to complement the card. ▶ watch 13:00
13. Mount the coloured circle background onto a black mat layer, then onto a red card base using wet glue. ▶ watch 14:00
14. Adhere the vellum sentiment panel to the centre of the card using a tape runner. ▶ watch 14:45

Tips from the show

• Use ink pad lids as holders for blenders so they don't roll around.
• Leave the centre of circles pale and avoid the centre when applying colour to create a spherical, three-dimensional effect.
• When using vellum, place paper underneath your stamping platform to prevent marks transferring to the vellum.
