Layered Lily Stencil Card with Bleed Technique

A project from our live show STUDIO 3 - CREATE AND CRAFT PRODUCT PREVIEW - Join Toni for her sneak peek of her brand new collection - Broadcast 1st June 22 · 06/01/2022 · watch it from 31:45

Create a beautiful three-layer lily flower using the Lovely Lily stencil and die set with a watercolour bleed technique. The dye-based inks are sprayed with water to create soft, flowing colour that bleeds naturally across the card, giving an artistic, abstract look with dimension.

Step by step

  1. Place the first numbered stencil (number facing you) on watercolour cardstock, ensuring it is the correct way round. ▶ watch 33:00
  2. Apply dye-based ink through the stencil using a sponge dauber, working in random strokes without worrying about perfection. ▶ watch 35:15
  3. Remove the stencil and lightly spray the inked area with water to allow the colour to bleed and move naturally. ▶ watch 36:30
  4. Blot up excess water with tissue paper to control the bleed effect and prevent over-saturation. ▶ watch 38:30
  5. Position the second numbered stencil on top, aligning it with the hearts marked on the first layer. ▶ watch 39:00
  6. Apply a different colour ink through the second stencil using a sponge dauber. ▶ watch 41:00
  7. Spray lightly with water again to create the bleed effect on the second layer. ▶ watch 42:00
  8. Position and ink the third stencil layer with a darker shade to add depth and dimension to the flower. ▶ watch 43:00
  9. Spray the final layer with water to complete the bleed technique and allow colours to merge naturally. ▶ watch 43:30
