Winter Village Card with White Ink Swiping Technique

Create a striking winter village card by embossing a village design onto dark card stock and bringing it to life with a white ink swiping technique. This produces a beautiful slate-like finish with the village emerging from the background.

Step by step

1. Run your patterned paper through the embossing folder to create the village design. ▶ watch 32:30
2. Trim the embossed piece to remove any ragged edges from the folder. ▶ watch 33:00
3. Take your white ink pad and angle it slightly, then drag it down the front of the card in a swiping motion to catch the top of the embossed village. ▶ watch 35:30
4. Turn the card around and swipe from the bottom up to match the effect and ensure the entire village is highlighted. ▶ watch 36:00
5. Press slightly harder if you want more grainy effect and additional lines in the white ink. ▶ watch 36:30
6. Mount the embossed panel onto a contrasting card base with a small border. ▶ watch 37:00
7. Add glitter glue to the roofs of the houses and allow to dry clear for a sparkly finish. ▶ watch 37:30

Tips from the show

• Tap the ink pad rather than swipe if you prefer a different effect to the dragging technique.
• You can use gilding waxes instead of white ink to bring the village to life.
• The embossing folder works on any card colour, not just black or dark card.
