Sunset Scene Card with Stylised Circle Stencil and Layered Stamps

Use a coloured watercolour paper pad as your base and create a sunset scene using the stylised circle stencil with pigment inks. Layer in reflection stamps of boats, trees, and birds to build a complete landscape within the circular frame.

Step by step

1. Select a coloured paper pad with sunset tones (such as funky fossil watercolour pad) as your card base. ▶ watch 38:00
2. Position the stylised circle stencil on your card, positioning it off-centre if desired. ▶ watch 38:15
3. Apply pigment ink (metallics or pigment inks) around the edges of the circle stencil to create a halo effect. ▶ watch 38:30
4. Add black pigment ink around the outer edge of the circle to create definition and depth. ▶ watch 39:00
5. Remove the stencil to reveal the circular frame. ▶ watch 39:30
6. Stamp a tree or foliage silhouette from the reflection stamp set in green ink at the bottom of the circle to suggest landscape. ▶ watch 40:00
7. Stamp a boat or water reflection element in black ink in the centre-lower portion of the circle. ▶ watch 40:30
8. Add bird stamps from the reflection set in black ink, positioning them as if flying or perched within the scene. ▶ watch 41:00
9. Add white confetti ink splats across the design to suggest stars or atmospheric effects. ▶ watch 41:30
10. Optionally add fine liner details or white gel pen lines to enhance water reflections or other elements. ▶ watch 42:00

Tips from the show

• Using coloured paper pads as your base eliminates the need to create a full inked background if you're not confident with ink techniques.
• All foliage elements from the stamp sets are designed to work together and cross-pollinate between sets, so don't be afraid to mix and match.
