Step by step

  1. Cut a centre panel from white card and apply distressed oxide inks in blue at the top and green at the bottom to create a sky and grass effect. ▶ watch 28:45
  2. Blend the blue ink down from the top and the green ink up from the bottom, leaving a gap in the middle where your fence design will sit. ▶ watch 29:15
  3. Glue a piece of wood-patterned scrap card onto blank card to give it rigidity and create a fence base. ▶ watch 31:00
  4. Stamp a fence design repeatedly across the wood-patterned card, aligning each stamp to the previous one to create a continuous border. ▶ watch 31:45
  5. Trim the fence strip to size and carefully hand-cut V-shaped notches along the top edge of the fence using scissors. ▶ watch 33:00
  6. Stamp flower designs onto scraps of patterned paper in various colours, using a magnet to hold the stamp in place. ▶ watch 35:00
  7. Die-cut the stamped flowers from the patterned paper scraps. ▶ watch 36:30
  8. Turn the fence over and apply tape runner adhesive along the top edge, then arrange the die-cut flowers face-down along the fence in a scattered, colourful pattern. ▶ watch 38:15
  9. Turn the fence over to reveal the flower border, then glue it onto the background panel with the distressed oxide sky and grass. ▶ watch 39:00
  10. Stamp the 'Happy Birthday to Me' sentiment and a cow character onto black card. ▶ watch 42:15
  11. Fussy-cut around the sentiment words and the cow character to separate them. ▶ watch 43:15
  12. Mount the sentiment words onto scraps of the same patterned paper used for the flowers, then fussy-cut around them to create coloured borders. ▶ watch 44:15
  13. Fussy-cut around the cow character carefully, following its outline. ▶ watch 46:00
  14. Hand-colour the cow with watercolours, adding pink to the nose and hooves and leaving the body black and white. ▶ watch 47:30
  15. Attach foam pads to the back of the cow and sentiment pieces, then position them on the card, placing the cow at the bottom and the sentiment words across the flower border. ▶ watch 49:00
