Sunflower Card with Watercolour and Layering

A stunning sunflower card that showcases the versatility of the large A5 stamp. This project combines watercolour painting, foam layering, and dimensional techniques to create a beautiful, textured floral design.

Step by step

1. Stamp the sunflower design in monochrome on cardstock to see the detailed petals and centre. ▶ watch 38:00
2. Create a watercolour background using wet-on-wet technique with loose colour washes in warm tones. ▶ watch 38:30
3. Colour the sunflower using Maya markers or watercolour, blending the petals for a vintage or fresh look. ▶ watch 39:15
4. Cut into every third or fourth petal carefully to maintain symmetry for the 3D effect. ▶ watch 40:00
5. Sculpt the petals gently using embossing tools or by hand to create dimension. ▶ watch 40:45
6. Adhere foam pads to the reverse of the sunflower and attach to your card base. ▶ watch 41:30
7. Add your chosen sentiment (shine like a sunflower or just for you) to complete the card. ▶ watch 42:00

Tips from the show

• Use 300 GSM cardstock for better sculpting and dimension
• You can use the stamp as a corner stamp, main flourish, or even upside down for different effects
