Step by step

  1. Create a background by swiping multiple ink pad colours across your cardstock in random angles—yellows, oranges and complementary colours—using gentle pressure. ▶ watch 50:00
  2. Lift excess ink with a damp towel to create a bleached, softer effect, allowing the colours to blend naturally as they dry. ▶ watch 51:00
  3. Cut or mask out the section of your swiped background that you want to feature as your main scene. ▶ watch 51:30
  4. Use the Stylized Sketch stencil (#5) to emboss a star design at the top of your card, positioning it to frame the scene below. ▶ watch 52:00
  5. Stamp the cabin and mountains design within or below the embossed star frame using black ink. ▶ watch 52:30
  6. Highlight the embossed star details with white ink using a small detail brush, bringing the star forward and creating contrast against the coloured background. ▶ watch 53:30
  7. Add white ink accents to suggest light reflecting on the cabin or water ripples in the foreground to enhance the sense of place. ▶ watch 54:00
