Textured Background Page with Crackle Paste and Stencil

A project from our live show CATCH UP with Toni & Emma for A FRIDAY LAUNCH in the HTCN studio broadcast 14th Jan 22 · 01/14/2022 · watch it from 28:45

Create a textured background using crackle paste applied through a mask, then layer it with stencilled designs. The thick paste creates visible cracks when dry, which can be enhanced with pigment inks for a striking mixed-media effect.

Step by step

  1. Prepare your page and select a mask from the stencil bundle. ▶ watch 28:45

  3. Allow the crackle paste to dry completely so the cracks become visible. ▶ watch 29:15
  4. Once dry, use pigment ink to colour the crackled surface, allowing the ink to settle into the cracks for definition. ▶ watch 29:30
  5. Position your stencil over the dried, inked surface and apply additional pigment ink through the stencil to create layered patterns. ▶ watch 29:45
  6. Remove the stencil carefully to reveal the combined effect of the crackle texture and stencilled design. ▶ watch 30:00
