A project from our live show Join Toni and Kelly for SUPER SAVINGS in the HTCN studio broadcast 8th Feb 22 · 02/08/2022
A mixed-media card featuring hand-painted watercolour backgrounds with ink splatters, heat-embossed vellum florals, and layered die-cut elements. The design combines abstract splatter techniques with delicate painted flowers for an artistic, textured look.
Cut watercolour card stock to size using your die-cutting machine, running the plates through twice for a good impression on thicker card.
Spritz the cut card stock with water using a spray bottle, then dab ink colours onto the wet surface to create a blended, organic background.
Apply texture paste through a stencil onto a separate piece of watercolour card stock, scraping it through to create textured impressions.
Heat-dry the texture paste using a heat tool, then spray water onto the textured surface and add ink colours with a brush to create a watercoloured effect.
Stamp a large floral image onto vellum using VersaMark ink and heat-emboss with white embossing powder.
Paint directly over the heat-embossed vellum design using watercolour inks and a brush, layering colours to create depth.
Create a splatter background on black card stock by flicking a brush loaded with grey and black inks to build up texture and movement.
Fussy-cut elements from the painted vellum sheet, keeping scissors still and moving the paper for cleaner cuts.
Layer the vellum florals and die-cut elements onto the splatter background using glue, positioning them to create dimension and visual interest.
Add embellishments such as gems or water droplets to the focal flowers to complete the card.
