Step by step

  1. Create an egg template by drawing around a circular die, then freehand the pointed top and curved sides to form an egg shape. ▶ watch 22:30
  2. Cut three egg shapes from coloured card (blue, yellow, and pink). ▶ watch 23:30
  3. Glue blue and green card strips to your card blank to create a sky and grass background. ▶ watch 24:00
  4. Position the stencil over the first egg and dust with blue ink using a brush, ensuring all detail areas are covered. ▶ watch 25:00
  5. Repeat the stencilling process on the second egg, positioning it in a different direction and using pink/red ink. ▶ watch 26:15
  6. Stencil the third egg in a different direction again, using orange ink to complement the yellow card. ▶ watch 27:30
  7. Edge each stencilled egg with the same ink colour using the ink pad directly to soften the cut lines. ▶ watch 28:00
  8. Draw crack lines on the back of two eggs where dinosaurs will emerge from the sides, and draw a line across the top of the third egg. ▶ watch 30:00
  9. Cut out the crack sections to create openings in the eggs. ▶ watch 30:45
  10. Paint a green dinosaur with a light green wash, then add darker green shading to the spikes, feet, and facial features. ▶ watch 31:45
  11. Paint a blue dinosaur with a light blue wash, then add darker blue shading and details. ▶ watch 32:45
  12. Add a red stripe down the green dinosaur's tummy to break up the colour area. ▶ watch 33:45
  13. Fussy-cut around each painted dinosaur to remove the white background. ▶ watch 35:30
  14. Glue the dinosaurs behind the egg openings, positioning them so they appear to be hatching or emerging. ▶ watch 36:30
  15. Cut small black card pieces to fill the gaps behind the dinosaurs where they emerge from the eggs. ▶ watch 37:00
