A project from our live show CREATE TOGETHER CLUB - Show 3 - Join Toni - Broadcast 30th March 22 · 03/30/2022
Design a striking split-panel card featuring a grayscale pencil sketch on one side and vibrant watercolour-enhanced pencil work on the other. This mixed-media approach combines watercolour washes with oil pencil details to create instant light and shade with minimal effort.
Cut a piece of top-folding card and reduce its size, then prepare a separate piece of white card for the design.
Place the white card into your stamping block and position it to stamp the floral image across two sections.
Stamp the bouquet image using black ink, capturing it across both the left and right sections of your card.
Heat set the stamped image with your heat gun.
Using grey oil pencils, colour the entire left panel of the design to create a grayscale sketch effect.
On the right panel, apply bright watercolour washes directly onto the stamped design—orange on the large flower, pink on another, and yellow-green on smaller blooms.
While the watercolour is still wet, enhance the petals and leaves with darker oil pencil shades, following the lines of the stamp.
Add a blue watercolour halo around the right panel design, then soften the edges with clean water.
Once dry, outline the design with a blue oil pencil to create a closer, more detailed halo effect.
Mount the painted card onto black cardstock to stabilise it and prevent buckling.
Glue the mounted design onto your top-folding card base.
Add a washi tape sentiment strip across the card to complete the design.
