Step by step

  1. Stamp the fan girl image from the Japanese girl collection onto a 6x6 inch white card using black ink, pressing firmly to ensure crisp detail. ▶ watch 17:30
  2. Dry the stamped image with a heat gun to prevent smudging. ▶ watch 18:45
  3. Using a ruler and black fine liner pen, extend the fan lines downwards from the base of the fan, creating straight lines that continue off the card. ▶ watch 19:15
  4. Carefully cut away the section between the extended fan lines using scissors, working around the girl's figure to maintain detail. ▶ watch 19:45
  5. Use a grey felt-tip pen to add a subtle outline around the girl's silhouette, giving her dimension without adding colour. ▶ watch 20:45
  6. On a 6x6 inch yellow card, position the fan stencil to align with where the girl is holding the fan, creating a continuation of the design. ▶ watch 23:15
  7. Using the Grenadine dye-based ink pad, tap colour through the fan stencil onto the yellow card, filling in the fan shapes. ▶ watch 24:15
  8. Reposition the stencil to fill in additional fan areas, working around the card to create a fanning pattern. ▶ watch 25:15
  9. Mount the yellow stencilled card onto a black layer, then onto a red layer to create a coordinated colour scheme. ▶ watch 26:00
  10. Mount the red layer onto a white card base. ▶ watch 26:45
  11. Using the cherry blossom stencil from the same collection and the Grenadine ink pad, stencil a pattern around the edges of the white card to break up the plain border. ▶ watch 27:00
  12. Mount the stamped girl card (with the cut-away fan section) onto the stencilled background using foam pads for dimension, aligning it over the fan design. ▶ watch 28:15
  13. Stamp a sentiment (such as 'You make me happy') onto a small piece of white card using black ink. ▶ watch 30:15
  14. Mount the sentiment onto black, then red layers, and attach to the card with foam pads for added height. ▶ watch 31:15
