Design a clean and simple card featuring three coloured umbrellas created with alcohol markers, layered with dimension pads, and a stamped sentiment. The umbrellas float above a textured background panel with scored lines.

Step by step

Stamp the umbrella head three times onto white card stock using black Memento ink. ▶ watch 32:45
Colour the first umbrella with purple alcohol markers, applying an initial layer and allowing it to evaporate. ▶ watch 33:00
Add depth to the purple umbrella by edging one or both sides with a darker shade once the first layer has dried. ▶ watch 33:30
Colour the second umbrella with coral alcohol markers using the same layering technique. ▶ watch 34:00
Colour the third umbrella with teal alcohol markers, layering and adding dimension as before. ▶ watch 34:15
Stamp your chosen sentiment onto black card stock using black ink. ▶ watch 36:30
Cut out the sentiment and mount it onto your card base. ▶ watch 38:30
Double-pad the three coloured umbrellas to make them stand proud from the card. ▶ watch 42:00
Position the umbrellas on your card, with one floating over the sentiment and the others in the corners. ▶ watch 43:00
Add white fine-liner details to the umbrellas for extra definition if desired. ▶ watch 43:30

Tips from the show

Layer alcohol markers by allowing each layer to evaporate before adding the next for better results.
Use glossy accents on the umbrellas to make them really stand out and add shine.
If you don't like white space, add a faint patterned umbrella background using a light ink pad.
